Luck of the Irish!

Today is St. Patrick's Day, which, if you live in Savannah, you know is a big deal. Huge parade, over a million people downtown (literally) weeklong festivities. We went our first year here and while we had a good time, I really have had no desire to go back and brave the crowds (and drunk college guys). I realized that this is probably going to be last year we are here to celebrate downtown. Of course we might come back to visit one day, but it is sad to think that we will be slowly saying good bye to all the special parts of Savannah that we love. We still have yet to go on a carriage ride or ghost tour downtown, eat at Mrs. Wilkes Boarding House (or the Pink House for that matter-but we have eaten at Paula Deen's restaurant). At the same time it is nice to look ahead to new adventures we will have in a new town.

Anyway, we (Wesley and I) had a great day, we went to the commissary to go grocery shopping, then I made Shepheard's Pie for dinner (not with lamb, but oh well) with Chocolate Mousse Pie for dessert. Yummy. Now if I can just get my hands on some Chicken Cashel Blue with garlic cream sauce....mmmmmm.

Oh, and since this day is celebrated by a lot of green...why not go a little green today and do something good for the environment? Even if it's just recycling your beer bottles? I ordered some more cloth diapers for Baby Henry. Every little bit helps. :) BumGenius All-in-One cloth diaper

Don't use that kind of language around me!

If one more person tells me I need to "Take it easy" I think I am going to slap them. Seriously. I would LOVE to take it easy right now. There is nothing I would like better than to be sitting around not cleaning, not cooking, not running after Wesley, not picking up Legos (again), not worrying about the bills, not trying to get the house ready to put on the market to sell, not trying to sell Christopher's car (any takers? 2008 Astra-it's all yours), not doing laundry, not doing FRG stuff, not paying the bills, not running the household by myself. It would be great if someone wanted to send me and Wesley (or maybe just me) on a vacation, take care of everything for me and just let me sit on the beach drinking non-alcoholic frozen beverages and grow Baby Henry. Please! I am ready and can be packed in about 10 minutes!

Back to reality. No one is going to do that for me. While I have fantastic friends down here, they are all busy being mom's and spouses of deployed soldiers too. They are also packing to move or getting their houses ready to sell or just living their busy lives. The fact of the matter is, there is no one besides me to get this all done. I am not really sure what everyone expects me to do. I HAVE to do it all by myself. That is part of being the wife of a deployed soldier. If my husband was here he would be helping me and happy to do it, but he's not.

What I need is for people to STOP telling me to relax and give me practical solutions (or just sit and listen to me complain for a while). I am not going to relax, I don't have that option. Also, telling me "If you think it's hard now, what are you going to do when you have two?" or "I don't know what you are going to do when you have two little ones running around" is not helpful, it's more stuff I don't need to hear right now. Some words of encouragement would be great. Maybe telling me it will be ok, once I get settled into a routine it will be fine. Or that if I get the house sold then it's one less thing I will have to worry about-that would be fantastic to hear! Maybe if we gave second time mom's more positive encouragement instead of eluding to the fact they have failed before they have even begun, they would not feel like failures. Like they shouldn't have even considered having a second baby because there is no way they can hack it. Come on people!

Star Wars

So, because my son is so in love with Star Wars I get to watch it all the time (well all the time I will let him! ). I don't mind too much, I mean, there are six of them to choose from, plus all the Clone Wars cartoons. I am getting a pretty good variety. We were watching the end of The Phantom Menace last night and then of course, Attack of the Clones came on so I told Wesley we would watch it today.

So here I am watching it. It would be MUCH more enjoyable if Hayden Christensen was not such a bad actor. I cringe the whole time watching him. I mean, it's just not believeable. This would be one of my favorites from the series if it wasn't for him. At least Ewan McGregor makes it worth my time because he is an excellent actor.

Oh, and a side note: I asked my husband not long ago if there Storm Troopers and Snowtrooper and Sandtroopers were there beach troopers? He thought I was was just being sarcastic but low and behold: There are Beach Troopers, they wear helmets and speedos. lol So again, I am right. ;) http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/File:Just_wrong.jpg Although I am amazed at the people who debate over whether they should be called "Beach Troopers" or "Bath Troopers". Seriously, you have too much time on your hands.

First post of 2010!

So, here we are in the New Year. So far, it's been crazy. We packed up everything and drove back to Savannah from Maryland and I guess we brought the cold weather with us! It's been so cold here. BRRR! They were actually calling for snow this weekend. Talk about giving the phrase "when Hell freezes over" a whole new meaning! Guess it's a good thing we packed Wesley's snow boots!

We are both still getting over being sick but doing better. It doesn't help we have been non-stop since we got back. Wesley in school and me going to the doctor's (baby is doing great! 15 weeks along and a heart rate of 145!) and taking the car to get the oil changed, PWOC today and a Tomboy Tool Party tomorrow afternoon. I guess I will get the house cleaned sometime this weekend. We finally took the Christmas tree and most of the decorations down, I will finish packing everything up then haul everything out the to garage.

I am also working on getting the house all cleaned out and de-cluttered and ready to sell, we are looking to put it on the market in about 3 months. Not sure how I will do all this alone and pregnant but I guess God will provide a way (and help!) when I need it. I am actually looking forward to using this opportunity to get rid of stuff that we are not using and get organized. It will make moving so much easier when the time comes!

We miss Christopher dearly right now, but the upside to this year:he will be coming home! Not sure when yet, but it will be this year! :)

2009, what a year!

Here we are, December 26th, 2009 (Happy Boxing Day everyone!). I can't believe 2009 is almost over. This year has flown by. I am sure that preparing for an upcoming deployment didn't make time go any slower! We had a busy year, in February we went to the Outerbanks to celebrate Mom's 50th birthday and timing worked out so that we had it over Wesley's 3r birthday. It was freezing cold but we had a great time together drinking and spending time warming up in the hot tub.

We had lots of visitors over the spring holidays, Debbie, Monica and Ted (friends of Christopher's) and then Mom and Matt all came to visit around Easter and enjoyed the warmer Savannah weather. Wesley finished his second year at Growing in the Son Preschool at Savannah Chrsitan. Summer started and we took a family vacation up to Maryland the end of June to see family and spend time at the beach with the Kellers and Jacques. It was also our 5 year wedding anniversary! I cannot believe it's been 5 years since we said our "I dos". We came home and got settled back into our life in Savannah, going to the pool and swim lessons and church and hanging out with friends. In September we had more visitors, Mom and Matt came over Labor Day weekend to spend some more time with us. Then we werebusy busy busy preparing for Christopher's deployment and just trying to spend time with each other. Debbie came to visit us the end of October then the day she left we headed south to Disney World for a week long vacation with the Mouse. We had a fantastic time, the International Food and Wine Festival was going on so we had lots of great food and drinks and our last night there we went to Mickey's "Not so scary Halloween Party" which was a blast! We had our little Jedi Knight all dressed up and we got candy and did our favorite rides over and over again.

We came home from Disney exhaused but happy we had such a great family vacation. Less than two weeks later we were once again saying good bye to Christopher at the hanger on post. It was hard but this time we had a better idea of what to expect and I think in some ways that made it easier for us. Wesley of course had a harder time dealing with Daddy being gone but once we got into a routine it got a lot easier. We had Halloween parties to keep us busy and the week that Christopher left we got some very exciting news: Baby Price #2 is on it's way! S/he should arrive sometime around June 28th, 2010! We are all super excited about this, Wesley more than anyone since he is convinced it's a "puppy and a sister" in there. Time will tell.... :)
Thanksgiving Wesley and I drove up to Maryland for a super busy and crazy week of family, friends and food. The night before I left I attended my 10 year High school reuinon which was a lot of fun (even if Ashley relived one of her drinking too much warm wine college nights). We came home for 3 weeks of parties and school and Christmas decorating and shopping only to turn around and drive back up to Maryland for the Christams holidays. Of course we chose the day that the Noreaster started and we ended up adding 4 hours to our trip when it started snowing around 7:30 pm in North Carolina! Six hours through Virginia in the snow is NOT fun, trust me on that. We did make it finally (3:30 AM!) to Mom and Matt's house where we settled in to enjoy a few snow days. It was Wesley's first snow, and he had a fantastic time playing in it, throwing snowballs and making snow angels. I just wish Daddy had been here to see it.

Our third day here Wesley and I both got really sick and we ended up going to the doctor's on Wednesday. Not that it helped me because Christmas morning I woke up with an ear infection and ended up going to Nighttime Pediatrics with Mom for most of the afternoon. We did have a fantastic Christmas Eve at Aunt Karen and Uncle Jimmy's house (even if I did't get to partake in the pomegrante champagne drinks this year!). Had a great family gift exchange (got some awsome barware from Potter Barn) . We got home and Wesley was so sick we were not able to attend Christmas Eve services with Mom and Matt and we had to miss mom's solo (but Brad said it was fantastic!). Christmas morning was great we got to open gifts with Uncle Brad, Lauren and Uncle Kyle (who made it there by 9 am!). We had lots of good food and a great time opening all our goodies. Wesley was a lot of fun (and way too neat) opening up his gifts. The boy has more Star Wars legos then he knows what to do with! We didn't get to go to Debbie's parent's house for dinner (because I was at the doctor's office) but after a long afternoon rest I was able to get it together and have Brad drive us to Dad and Kim to visit for a while since I had not seen them since arriving here a week ago.

We are looking forward to spending the rest of our time up in Maryland visiting with Friends and family and hopefully having a quiet but fun time ringing in the New Year. We head back hom January 4th (next year!) so Wesley can go back to school and I can hopefully schedue an appointment to find out what our baby is.

I am looking forward to 2010, I love the New Year, it's like getting a fresh start every year. I know that 2010 will bring us some more good times with family, a new baby in June and m husband home sometime before the end of the year. Hopefully our house will sell (pray for us please!) and we will have a smooth transition to our next duty station in Fort Lee, Virginia (although that might not be until 2011!). I hope that no matter what kind of year 2009 was for everyone out there, 2010 is even better. Blessings to all!

Sunday Science Experiments

Today we got up and went to church-great service by the way. Then we went to Kroger to get some bread since everything we has was all moldy (ewww). I remember that I have to get a box of cake mix for the cake I am making for the cake walk for PWOC so I stop to grab a box. Well, Wesley of course gravitates to the sprinkles. He asks if we can get a bottle of rainbow colored ones and I tell him, "No, we already have some at home. Put them back on the shelf." What does he do? Opens the lid and proceeds to shake them into his mouth! Very bad decision. Then I had to buy them since they had my kid's spit all over them. *sigh*. We make it home (and he is not allowed to watch Baby Einstein all day because the sprinkles incident which, trust me is a bad thing to him right now). Anyway, we get home, have lunch and we try out some of the science experiments that came along with his flask from his Chick-Fil-A kids meal yesterday. We had a lot of fun with vinegar and baking soda. Of course Wesley just wanted to know where the "fire" was from the volcano. I took some pics, if I at a chance I will post them later.

So, it's a nice day maybe I will get Wesley away from his legos and outside for a bit. This is when I need Christopher around, so I can take a nap and he can exhaust Wesley by running around playing soccer with him. :)

Hey everyone-not that anyone reads this anymore, since I haven't posted in almost a year! Ooops. I doubt I will do a "catch-up" post, so consider this a fresh start.

Well, we are in our first week of our second deployment. I can hardly believe it, it seems like I was just dropping him off for his first deployment. But here we are. I hear that it doesn't get any easier, and in some ways that is true, but in some ways not. I know what to expect this time, and I know I have a fantastic group of women here to support me, along with all my other friends and family. Plus I have a 3 1/2 year old to run after, that is enough to keep me busy for a while. I truly believe that God has had a hand in us being where we are, that we are exactly where we are supposed to be right now, so I am trusting in Him to take care of us for the next year. A positive already: Christopher says it is beautiful where he is, that there are endless stars...I think someone will be getting a star chart for Christmas. ;) .

I don't know how much exciting stuff will be going on, but I will try to update, even if it is not very exciting stuff. Who knows? There might be a couple of surprises along the way...
